Date nights can get repetitive and expensive. The next time you and your partner make plans, try one of these five eco-friendly ideas. They don’t require a lot of money or preparation time, but they are sure to produce memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.
Head to the Local Farmer’s Market
Supporting local businesses, like a McAllen pest control company, is a great way to help protect the environment. Farmer’s markets offer fresh, nutritious food, typically grown only a short distance away from the market itself. Plan a menu with your loved one and then head off to the market together to pick out the foods that you need. Spend the evening preparing and cooking the food, and then enjoy dinner out on the deck. You can even pack up your food and go on an impromptu picnic if you feel so inclined.
Explore by Bike
Do you need a vacation but don’t have the time (or money) to go on a trip? Spend the weekend exploring your city or town with your partner. Instead of taking your gas-guzzling vehicle, though, plan a bike trip instead. Research bike trails in your area and map out a route that both you and your partner are excited about. If you don’t own a set of bikes, look into renting one.
Go Camping
Leave technology behind, including your smartphone, and head out into nature for a camping trip. Spending time in the woods will give you and your loved one a chance to talk and discover new things about one another. To make the trip even more “green,” avoid bringing plastic or paper products that will just end up in a landfill. Go on a hike, engage in a little star-gazing or bring a soccer ball to kick around. You may find the simplicity of the trip refreshing.
Register for an Eco-Friendly Class
Depending on where you live, you should be able to find a number of interesting “green” classes to take with your partner. Topics like sustainable cooking, composting or even candle-making can be a fun and interesting way to spend the weekend. Take turns picking classes so each of you is able to do something that you are passionate about. For ideas, check your local community college or Parks and Recreation Department.
Take in the Sunrise
Make a plan to meet your partner early one morning to watch the sun come up. Choose a location, bring a blanket, and pack a breakfast. It’s one of the most romantic things the two of you will experience together.
Green living doesn’t have to be hard. Have fun with the eco-friendly dates listed here, or get creative and come up with your own.
